Sedums
are exceptionally drought tolerant succulents.
Many lower growing varieties are excellent for
use as a groundcover or border.
We
plant sedum groundcovers along walkways or paths,
on small embankments and they look especially
nice around the rocks and boulders of the garden
pond or rock garden.
The
sedum groundcovers listed below have been selected
based on their overall aesthetic contribution
and performance in Zone
8.
'Angelina'
is one of the best groundcover sedums yet for
quick coverage and brilliant yellow tones. Angelina
grows 3-4" tall and spreads 2 feet wide in
a single season, and in Zone 8 the foliage will
turn to a rich orange. You can't beat this bold
golden sun-lover for scrambling across hot, dry,
poor soils that other plants shun! Zone 6-9
'Gold
Carpet' is one of the finest ground covers
for sunny dry slopes and banks. The Sedum has
masses of yellow star-shaped flowers that cover
it in late spring and early summer. Rich green
scalloped leaves the rest of the year. Grows to
5" tall. Zone 6-9
'Ogon'
is one of the few sedums that does really well
in afternoon shade. Glowing yellow foliage is
outstanding in the garden. Zone 7-9
'Tri-Color'
is a very attractive sedum groundover that has
white, pink and green tricolor foliage. Pink,
star-shape flowers, on short stalks, rise above
the foliage in summer.
